Kate & Mike - Vintage-Inspired Hadspen Wedding

Happy Tuesday!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and for those of you in Tasmania, I hope you are safely inside today while the crazy winds are blowing outside.

After getting married nearly 4 months ago now, I thought it was about time that I featured my own wedding here on the apple aisle.

My husband Mike and I were married on 12 March 2011 at the beautiful Red Feather Inn in Hadspen, Tasmania. As most of our friends and family are from Melbourne, we had a wonderful weekend of celebrations with all our nearest and dearest and for a lot of them it was their first visit to the Apple Isle.

It was wonderful to share our new home with them all and we were lucky to have amazing weather over the whole long weekend.

Our photographer was Abigail Varney who did a fantastic job of capturing the day and we could not have been happier with all the photos.

My dress was designed by Rose & Ruby and I was very lucky to find it brand new in my size on eBay, as the designers closed shop over a year ago. My shoes were by Wittner and I made my own veil from chantilly lace bought from Clarissa Grace.

As my engagement ring had been designed by New York designer Elisa Solomon, we contacted her again for help in designing my wedding band. Mike's Blade of Grass ring was designed by another talented New York designer, Carla Caruso. Our ring bearer bowl was custom made by Paloma's Nest and featured a favourite lyric from The Waif's song 'Eternity'.

The bridesmaids all wore different dresses in various shades of pink from Forever New, Karen Millen, Bariano and Esther and their gifts were matching earrings from Karen Garner Designs on Etsy and robes for getting ready in by Plum Pretty Sugar.

The beautiful bouquets were put together by Grant at Cachet Florist in Launceston and the colours of the Akito, Bianca and Mettalina roses matched perfectly with the bridesmaids pink dresses.

The fantastic Tahnee from Convict Cutters did all of the girls' hair and everyone did their own make-up.

The groom wore an ivory and white striped tie and the two best men wore matching pink and ivory striped ties with blue shirts and their own individual cufflinks.

Our ceremony was held under a beautiful willow tree in the Red Feather gardens. The bunting hung under the tree was custom made in pink and blue vintage patterns by local artist Luisa at Dance In My Garden.

Each guest took home a jar of homemade Cherry Jam, made with cherries grown in the Huon Valley.

The bridesmaids and I walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of 'Everlong' by the Foo Fighters, one of my all-time favourite songs.

The songs chosen for the signing of the certificate were 'The Luckiest' by Ben Folds and 'When I First Met Your Ma' by Paul Kelly. The recessional song was a more upbeat choice with 'Wagon Wheel' by Old Crow Medicine Show.

The song for the first dance was the hardest to choose, we wanted something easy to dance to but also something that meant a lot to us. After playing nearly every song on our iTunes playlist, we ended up going with a classic, 'In My Life' by The Beatles.

  1. kate!!! it looks like you had the most wonderful day and your dress is absolutely divine... wow!!! :)

  2. Thanks Nat! We had such a fantastic weekend and it went so fast as everyone said it would.

  3. I adore your gown! And the shoes - the glitter detail is smashing. You both look positively radiant!

Did you use the typewriter for your guestbook? Or just for some rad styling?

  4. Thanks for the kind words, small catalogue. My husband has taken to calling them my "princess shoes".

We used the typewriter as a guestbook as well as a proper guestbook, people don't really have the same patience as they used to for typewriters...most of the messages typed on it were half finished!

  5. Kate! I just love your stunning dress, the 'real' candles, gorgeous flowers, and bridesmaides dresses and the simplicity and elegance of it all! Oh..and 'those' shoes - wow! It's all just beautiful!
And many thanks for featuring my bunting - xx

  6. I just had to tell you how beautiful I think this all is, I just love the dress and gorgeous elegant veil. What beautiful memories
