From The Owl - Wedding & Gift Registry

I'm very excited to post today's interview with Alex and Marissa of From The Owl because it's a fantastic new Australian company but also because I love and want everything on their registry!

Tell us a bit about yourselves and your backgrounds.

Marissa is a graphic designer turned wedding photographer and Alex is a sound engineer, so we both come from creative backgrounds and have a huge passion for homewares, interiors, photography, art and video.

Where did you get the idea to start ‘From The Owl’?

We are at the age were a lot of our friends are getting married and had found it really hard to find gifts that we truly loved enough to give to our friends. We think wedding registries are a perfect idea, and wanted to offer things that we would be excited to give as a gift, something a little more unique and fun.

We saw a gap in a niche market and 'From the Owl' was born.

How do you decide what products to add to your gift registry?

All the products at From The Owl are gifts and products we truly love and would like to see in our own home. We are big on quality and we love products that are unique, well made and suit a range of budgets.

We know we may not appeal to all couples as we have a particular style that we gravitate towards but we just stick to our gut instinct and if it makes us go "oohhhh" then it's on the list.

What inspires you?

We seem to be really inspired by things with difference and originality, things that are hard to find and things that can't be found on your every day shopping trip. We get obsessed with finding fun things in odd places.

We're big on photography, art, video, second hand shops (because there's nothing better than trawling through mountains of trash to find that one treasure). We love creative people and the products they produce.

We get inspired by Weddings and love the thought of offering gifts that people will be excited to receive as a wedding present.

If you were registering on ‘From The Owl’ yourselves, what 5 products would you register for?

That's a doozy, we love everything but if we have to choose this is our top 5:

1: Acapulco Chair in Turquoise

2: Creme Bike

3: Panel Pop Print

4: Pony Rider Pillow

5: Money towards our Honeymoon (From The Owl wishing well)

What is your favourite thing about weddings?

It would have to be the excitement in the lead up to the big day. Nothing beats the anticipation of how good the day will be and how much fun you will have dancing up a storm with your friends and family.

What are your favourite wedding trends at the moment?

We are massive fans of any wedding that doesn't follow any particular "trend".

We hope that doesn't sound too conceited, but we love couples who take inspiration from things they truly like and make it their own. It's very cool when you see personal bits and pieces come together to tell the story of a couple.

We love and appreciate atmosphere at a wedding with a little 'wow' thrown in.

What song is guaranteed to make you get up and dance?

Right now it has to be "Sexy and I know it" from LMFAO…wiggle wiggle wiggle man! Gets us moving every time!

Thanks Alex and Marissa, can't wait to see what products you come up with next!

  3. I love the light bulbs, thanks for sharing. I love the moment the bride is visible. They always look amazingly beautiful. Yes the Bride is the best part of a wedding, for me, without a doubt. Have enjoyed myself looking around your lovely blog I will join on the way out so I know my way back when next I visit. Hope you can find a minute to do the same over at my place. Cheers SpecialK XoXo
