Mallory & Derek - A Tasmanian Spring Wedding

Today's wedding is special in more ways than one. Just a week out from their big day, the bride had to have emergency surgery and only managed to get out of hospital the day before!

Mallory and Derek were married on 27 November 2010 at St. Patrick's College Chapel in Prospect, followed by a reception at The Happy Chef in Longford.

Their special day was photographed by Caught A Glimpse Photography.

How They Met...

Mallory and Derek met in Launceston in 2005 while Mallory was studying a Performing Arts degree at the University of Tasmania. She was working part time and Derek's cousin who was also a work colleague, introduced her to Derek.

After a few social gatherings and dates she began to fall in love with Derek’s caring, sweet and funny nature.

The Wedding Day...

The couple chose the St. Patrick's College for the ceremony because it plays a significant part in Mallory's life; it is where she went to school and where she now works as a teacher.

They both knew they wanted their reception to be held at The Happy Chef the moment they got engaged. They had been to a few weddings there and enjoyed the food and atmosphere so booked their wedding there immediately.

The colour theme for the wedding was yellow, white and silver, all of which were seen in the bridesmaids' dresses, men's ties, flowers, cake and the reception venue.

A week out from the wedding, Mallory fell very ill and was admitted into hospital for emergency surgery to remove her appendix. It then began to dawn on her that they were getting married that Saturday and she wondered if she would be able to make it down the aisle.

They rushed her in for surgery and she was in hospital until the day before the wedding. Feeling very sore, emotional and tired as well as being in hospital, it made it very hard to plan the wedding. Thankfully her mother and bridesmaids got straight on to everything and everyone rallied together to help out with the day and Mallory was able to marry her sweetheart.
